Jogging vs Running
Jogging vs running: What's the difference between jogging and running? Well jogging is considered a form of trotting or running at a slow or leisurely pace. Its main intention is to increase
fitness
with less stress on the body than from faster running.
The only reason I would take up jogging is so that I could hear heavy breathing again. ~Erma Bombeck
There is a distinct difference between jogging and running. One is performed at a more comfortable, relaxed pace and primarily for cardiovascular fitness and
weight loss.
While, running, on the other hand, is generally done at a considerably faster pace where a mile is typically completed in 8 minutes or less.
I've completed a mile in 8 minutes and that's all I could do was that one mile. I couldn't push myself any further to complete another 10 miles at the same pace. But runners often maintain that same fast pace throughout a running event. They don't slow down and they don't quit unless they've injured themselves (and even then they might still push on just to finish).Running is considered a competitive sport with finishers receiving medals and purses with the best times. Running is a part of the Olympics where the fastest runner receives a gold medal. Not everyone can compete as a runner, but most of us can be joggers. We may not do interval or tempo runs as speed is not always the goal of a jogger, but getting outside and pushing yourself is rewarding in itself.
Jogging is a terrific exercise for
beginners
and most joggers can certainly compete in local running events. Its a great idea to sign up for a running event to see what it feels like to be part of something fun and motivational. Local running events support local charities. It's great to see where your donations are going and how they benefit the community. Participating in running events can really inspire you to take your jogging to the next level. It's worth trying out.
