Jogging alone is free, fun and a great stress reliever! It's a time for you to reconnect with yourself and reflect on your inner most thoughts.
There are so many daily stresses for people: raising children, working, commuting, caring for parents, spending time with friends and so on. Having just a little bit of "me" time to take care of yourself is not only important for your
health,
but it's important to do for your mind. Many of us juggle lots of daily responsibilities and we're trying to do it all. It's especially difficult with the current economic situation creating more stress on families and relationships. Everyone needs an outlet; a way to release the stresses of the day. Escape the Stress
Jogging alone is a great way to give back to yourself. To replenish your spirit. It can be done early in the morning when the dew is still on the grass or after a morning rain. There's something refreshing about breathing in the air after the rain has cleansed the ground. It might seem a little silly, but breathing in different outdoor scents and engaging your other senses such as seeing other people outside walking, jogging or just passing by and listening to birds chirping is quite relaxing. It gets you focused on something other than work, responsibilities or family issues. It can be done at any time that's convenient to your schedule. Morning jogs are terrific, but so are afternoon and evening jogs. Make the time where it works for your schedule.
Safety First
Of course, jogging alone does come with
safety
concerns. We can't ignore that and you must remain alert to your surroundings. While the beauty of the outdoors can invigorate your spirit, you do want to pay attention to what's going on around you. You can get lost in your thoughts and your music and forget everything and everyone, but this isn't wise or safe. Not all of us can get out to jog where there are lots of trees and foliage. Sometimes only city jogging is available and, perhaps due to your schedule, you can only get out in the late evening. Be very careful. Exercise precautions by keeping your cell phone with you, keep your music at a level that you can hear traffic and others around you, let friends know where you're jogging and when to expect you back.
Bring your dog along if you have one or invite a friend to join you. Perhaps even start a jogging club at your job or locate a local club so that you can find the motivation and encouragement when you need it.
Jogging is a terrific, low cost fitness exercise that really helps not only your body but your mind as well. Of course, this activity is not without safety concerns so always stay alert to what's going on around you.
