Advantages of Jogging

Are there advantages of jogging? Why jogging over, say...rock climbing?

Well for one thing, jogging doesn’t involve climbing up 90 degree angles or hanging by your fingers. Whew, good thing. There wouldn’t be any joggers if that were the case.

But seriously...

There are several good reason to begin jogging. Hopefully the list below helps you decide if it’s right for you.

  • It's inexpensive. Jogging is pretty cheap. It doesn’t require lots of gadgets, expensive clothes or gear to begin. Just step out your front door in some comfortable workout clothes and a decent pair of jogging shoes. That’s pretty much it.



    Spend more if you like by purchasing heart rate monitors, moisture wicking clothes, runners’ socks, top-of-the-line running shoes and sunglasses.

    Jogging works for pretty much any budget.

  • Jog any time. Morning people will enjoy morning jogs. Rev up their metabolism so its burning calories all day long. Oh, and get your exercise out of the way, too.

    Non-morning runners or folks with busier schedules may want to jog in the afternoon or evening. Do what works for you and your schedule. Just get your jog in so you feel great about doing something good for your body.

  • Jog anywhere. One of the neat advantages of jogging is that it can be done anywhere. Jog in the city, a state park, along trails, in your neighborhood, along bike paths or on the beach.

    You’ve got variety, which makes jogging interesting. Of course there’s always the treadmill if you just can’t get outdoors.

  • Get family and friends to join you. Jogging can be a solitary exercise, but there’s no reason not involve family and friends. You'll be more motivated particularly when you're starting out. The encouragement and support is a great way to keep you going.



  • Jog with your dog. Take your dog along. Dogs love and need exercise. They're thrilled to be with you so it makes sense to bring them along. Of course, be sure Fido is up for the challenge so he doesn’t over exert himself.

    Have a small dog? If he’s not interested in jogging perhaps consider getting a pet jogging stroller. This way you can go for longer jogs without worrying about your “little one”.

  • Nude jogging? Perhaps. Jogging in the buff allows you to fully enjoy the outdoors without being encumbered. It’s not for everyone. And don't do it if it's illegal in your area. Of course, do be careful where you jog nude so as not to compromise your personal safety.



  • Me-time. With all the things going on in our lives it's nice to take a break and get time alone with your thoughts. Turn on your iPod or mp3 player and enjoy your music while burning calories.

    Jogging is great alone time. It allows you to think through problems, issues or concerns without distractions.

As you can see, there are several advantages of jogging which make it a great fitness routine to begin. Exercise can be tough to fit into your day, but jogging offers great flexibility making it a good aerobic choice.
